Fresh Faces Contest 2010

So I entered my daughter into this Fresh Faces photography contest. This is a local photographer in the area who has done some beautiful work. Her portfolio online shows some great pictures. However, the grand prize of it all is a session with her. That would be amazing- as my daughter loves to take pictures, but also- to me, she is very photogenic! I was told with her from the age of 4 months that I should get her into kid modeling... however- I am just not sure about the hours that would inquire for her. And.. I digress.. I want her to have fun during photo's not be holed up in a studio for hours.

So check this out- and if you feel so inclined- enter your kid too. Try and give us a run for our money! HA! May the best man win (and in hopes I am hoping it is my darling little girl... )...of course this is all in good clean fun.

However- check out this website http://www.chapmansphoto.com/v4/blog/2010/uncategorized/fresh-faces-cutest-kid-contest/ and see what Heather Champman does! Book your appointment today!

Since Fat Tony

seems to say he doesnt know what to say- yet, he has 4 other blogs.. look at this gem I found. Has some prominence.

No Cripples Allowed

I use to be a gamer. I owned multiple systems, I played all the time, and I knew what was coming down the pipe, as new stuff was concerned. I got out of hardcore gaming after Halo 3 because everything looked like rehashing of stuff I've already played. it became boring to even watch the trailers.

As a handicapped individual, this whole movement (pardon the pun) in motion capturing video game design is starting to get on my nerves. I'm talking about the Nintendo Wii, the Playstation Move, and the XBox Kinect. These three items capture a persons movement and use that to interact with the game. The Playstation 3 controllers had 6-axis movement, where the controller could detect how it was held and some games used that movement. Now Move and Wii use controllers that use a sensor to detect movement, and you move your arms, you punch, you kick you hold down a button then move, and there's a weird dance like movement to play a game. The Xbox's Kinect goes a step further, adding a 3D camera to detect how close/far away from the screen, 19 points of articulation that can tell how you're moving, when you're moving, and there's no controller needed.

So, umm, what's my problem?

An article over at gaming blog Kotaku explains that Microsoft's Kinect doesn't detect players sitting on a couch. Now, that isn't a huge deal for those of you who can easily get up and stand in front of a TV and move but there are us gamers who can't do that, and because of it, I'm a bit annoyed.

Is there a market for these motion games? Nintendo proved yes, you can get gamers off their ass to play a game but how many Wii owners still sit while they play? I mean, Microsoft, I've been a user of your gaming system from near the beginning and I've been more than happy (even with the whole red ring of death thing) but to see that Microsoft hadn't thought this through is disappointing. Does this mean there isn't a single wheelchair member of production, presentation or even development? No one said "Hey, I was sitting in my wheelchair and the Kinect (which I keep trying to spell it with an 'x' instead of a 'c') doesn't recognize it. It freaks out and displays a warning: No Cripples Allowed. What's that about and why is no one making eye contact with me?"

Yes, Microsoft has come out and said "sure, sit, relax" but in that same linked article there, developers say otherwise. If I didn't have a child who stopped dead in her tracks and stared at the Kinectimals advertisement I popped on the TV screen last night, I doubt I'd ever even think twice about the damn thing. She was amazed and even frowned when they showed the little girl run off and the tiger started whining! My daughter felt bad about a virtual animal! It's hard to think about that kind of reaction and not second guess my avoidance of Kinect as a whole.

If they ever figure out the whole movement from a seated position thing, I'll really think about getting it. They really had me a "Xbox, pause..." because I use my Box as a DVD player so those kind of things, I get and like, but if I have to stand in front of my XBox, wave at it, then give a command when someone else wants to use the bathroom: screw you hippie, I want to enjoy my spot on the couch, not loose it to my cat because that's what the little bastard does and you cat owners know what I'm talking about, I bet your virtual pets doesn't do that, let me know cause I'll be playing my PSP on my couch.

a blog? du wha?!

Summer got on me for not blogging and for that, I'm sorry. She did say we would try, one of us at least, to blog once a day, so I'll take a stab at it. It's not that I don't have anything to say, I have like four other blogs (I'll pimp them in a moment) but this is the first blog that I don't focus on one subject and write about.

I had a run in yesterday with two kids, at my local gas station. Well, the gas station doesn't belong to me, but you get where I'm going. Anyway, I was pulling my wheelchair out of my trunk when I noticed them, both smoking a cigarette which was the first thing that I noticed, the second wasn't a big thing but they were goth, or at least dressed and looked the part.

I'm not one to throw out things like "goth kids are punks" because I was goth, I wore the black, had long hair, listened to metal, I get that. I didn't say anything, didn't give them a look, or anything. I went in, used the bathroom, grabbed a sandwich and came back out to my car.

This is when shit gets good.

So, I'm putting my chair back into my trunk when I hear the one kid smirk. I look over and they give me this look. I ignore it and go back to fighting my chair, it had gotten hook and was fighting against me.

I mumble "piece of crap" under my breath and I hear "Got a problem with us, man?"

I fight the urge to drop my chair in laughter but I ignore them, thinking they're speaking to someone else.

"You not hear me?"

I turn, to see the issue and they're standing at the corner, smoking, and I roll my eyes and finally get the chair in.

"You have a problem with us?"

"I heard you, but I was hoping you were talking to someone else."

"Why, you scared?"

I'm sorry, but I smirked.

"No, you guys remind me of myself."

I sounded old, my gawd, who have I become? My Father? Load the gun up and take me out back, I don't deserve that kind of pain.

"Whatever man."

"No, really, I use to get the whole wearing black pants, long sleeves, in 90 degree weather, the hair, you guys probably listen to mainstream metal, real rebels."

They started to ignore me. Perfect!

"You look all hard but then you go home and watch Fresh Prince of Belair and play Pokemon on your Game Boy DS and when no one is looking you switch from your Pantera to your Owl City play list."

They turn and give me a look of amazement. I was right.

"You've never heard a single song from outside the country that wasn't imported with a video game or on a television show. You buy black because you have no real fashion sense and for the record, Hot Topic is not punk rock on the grounds that nothing says punk rock like Hello Kitty."

They walk off, flicking their unfinished cigarette off the building, mumbling about how screwed up their lives are.

If you haven't figure it out yet, none of that crap ever happened.

Well, most of it didn't.

What did happen was, I was at the gas station when I was struggling with my chair when these two goth punk kids put down their cigarettes, came over and offered to help me with my chair.

That is counter culture, and that is what punk is really about and kudos to both of those guys. But, really, black? 96 degrees! DEWD! Wear some shorts!

The weekend has come to an end

yet- it feels like the days are just dragging. Have you ever had one of those days? It does not help that my allergies are wreaking havoc on my system. I have a friend who is an herbalist- and looking into some natural ways of relieving that- along with other things. Isn't it funny how bodies that are lacking certain vitamins and minerals can be fixed with OTC stuff. I think its fantastic. FANNNNN-tastic! I had to do an assessment up for her- got it done. Some of the parts that "add" up on the scale are like a "dur" for me- yet I would like to know what to do for them. A couple of the others that are ranking make me go "hrm..". But I am sure it will be marvelous!

For warning.. I am on meds.. and they make me a little schizy.. so be aware..

So I am hooked on a couple of shows that I shouldn't be. Really. I swear- it is more the psychological side of me that wonders what in sam hell goes through these peoples heads. One being Wife Swap. I am sure that most of you have seen it- however, I should say to watch this to get the full effect of what I am saying. I am curious as to why people act the way they do. Sometimes they are train wrecks and sometimes they are eye opening and sometimes heart wrenching. The other show that is baiting me like a fish is Hoarders on A&E. That show has only one good effect on me.. the fact that I MUST .. MUST... clean my house after or while watching it. This one gets me more than wife swap. Cause I wonder what possess people to keep TRASH. Not just piled up mail and magazines, but like empty soda cans or dirty napkins. It has gone as far to show that people are so disgusting to forget where their cat has been only to find it mummified under a pile of crap. DO WHAT?! Yeah.. mummified. Mmm Tasty! *barf*

Party foul on the roller coaster of emotions.

Went geo-caching for the first time on Friday night. Had a girls night at my place with chocolate (what girl doesn't love this?) it commenced with being de-virginized with geo-caching by fatcristie!(her blog has been mentioned.. check it out) It was a lot of fun! Decided to tell the hubs about it- and we went again last night. Thus, I will say that it is a great form of entertainment. We were able to successfully find 2 in the area last night. 3/4 of one that is a "night" only retrieval and one that is currently mocking me because I have visited the place twice and I have yet to find it. 2 were placed last night. One of the sked retrievals were abandon- as it was kinda a kitschy spot and I wasn't digging the gut feeling of the surroundings.

ARGH! These meds make my mood swings go nuts..

Im out.

1... 2... 3... (no its not the britney song)

Had to break it into three parts because of length. This is the first one- and as far as I know- the only one that will be this long.

As stated

in the forthcoming vlog.. we will be posting some of our fav everyday's that we visit! Here are just a few of mine.

www.postsecret.com (These are only updated every sunday. So- it is a weekly thing.. rather than an everyday.)

I will add more.. I am suddenly having to teach my 4 year old to use a laptop.

Darkness

What the hell is up with the countries government that they cannot seem to want to do a simple thing ...like .. Oh I dont know.. clean up the dark sludge that is crippling so many people, animals and waterways? Is it really that hard? Clearly the interests of funds that are going to places such as the next political bash and or the census making sure their tallies are correct... (which btw.. here's a light bulb for you- there will not be a correct count in the census if this is not taken care of- because people are losing their lives because of this giant mess)...are not worth it right now. What is worth it is making sure the livelihood of those in need are met right now, and not when you have a free minute from your bottle of 1775 Sherry in a 24k gold rimmed flute.

It irritates me that these multimillion dollar companies and markers choose not to do something about this and quick. There are those who are passionate about the people, animals and environment enough to do something about it- however the almighty congress and dare I say.. the president do something NOW.. those people are sidled by. And dont give me "oh well the president has more important things to do like war, Summer"... yeah well.. apparently taking a vacation to another state was more important than a holiday that is observed to remember ones who have scarified their life for you to be able to live here.. But.. yeah.. that is a whole other ball of wax. I mean, seriously, Kevin Costner is offering an invention that would be safe and effective. His invention is a machine that "will separate oil from water to a level of 99 percent purity." And why has this not been scooped up? Because the government is not "Worried" about this. Sure.. they play a sad face for the cameras.. but how much does that sad face pay? Yet- Costner continues to say that oil companies and or other technology tycoons wouldn't pick this invention up. Why? Beats the hell out of me. I could understand if it would be a waste of money, if oil spills were unknown, yet.. oil spills have caused devastation before now- and will continue if precautions are not taken. Why are people not saying "that is a damn good idea.. can he prove it?" And give him the chance to prove it.. He has already spent the money and time to create the machine- all they would have to do is sit back and watch.

You know- the everyday common folk do have a brain.. concept eh?

Just happened the Costner had the money to fund his project. At least he is doing something worthwhile. After the 1989 spill by Exxon.. he chose to make a difference by creating this machine- that seems to me, makes a whole lot of sense. He says "After buying a patented process from the Department of Energy, Costner hired engineers and scientists, along with his brother who ran the company, to create a machine to take oil out of water that could be deployed from ports and harbors. The result: a device designed to fit onto a dock, fishing boat or other vessel that can purify 210,000 gallons of oil-polluted water per day."

Purify 210,000 gallons of water off of a fishing boat say what? (thank you to the hours of watching Hannah Montana with my daughter to have the 'say what' stance) Again.. why not?

One of the top stories on CNN.com is titled "Senators head to Gulf as tempers flare.." The video that slaps you in the face as the article opens is a mushroom cloud of darkness. OR is it a shade of black with a tinge of vomit spewed mocha? Oh.. sorry.. not a decorators dream palette? However, it opens with the stance that the senators are going to the coastal regions to "assess the damage caused by the growing BP disaster."... Assess? Come again? Ass sphincter says what? Assess? What is there to assess? I really dont understand what there is to "look at". I mean really? And tempers flairing? Gee.. wonder why. And the BP disaster? Sure.. they had a hand in it- but it is no longer just their "disaster".

Researchers are now calculating that " up to 40,000 barrels, or 1.7 million gallons, a day may have escaped for weeks." Wait.. what? And this crap is still going? I may have a simple brain about the constructing knowledge involved- but I am not quite sure as to why some non eye appealing item has not been welded over this obscurity... because I know underwater welding can be done ( thank you discovery television). They constantly do it when building bridges and underwater fixes to submarines. Why cant something be done now? that is the question that is toted everywhere. I mean seriously, there was a video that was just shown of a man who went in and gave us a view of what it really looks like. Maybe not the brightest crayon in the box to go in without protective gear.. but there are precautions that could be given to those scuba welders.

I have seen various news footage through the web and on tv of people who are losing hope. Something that no one should ever loose. Yet, when the lively hood of those who are dependent on the waterways.. what else is there to do? Unemployment doesn't apply to the self employed owners (I know this for a fact). Welfare is picky to those who obviously need a boost yet are not in a tax bracket that is considered (I know this for a fact too). And its certainly not tasteful to lean on each other for support through the barter system anymore (though it should be.. life and debt would be so much better if) to make ends meet. So.. where does this place these people? What happens to the animals who are losing their life because of this? Many have seen the pictures of the pelicans covered in oil, the seagulls suffocating under the coating of goop. And now there is an article that claims "Kills them or clean them?" What good will that do? Harm over hand? A gloved hand with Dawn soap can make a difference. You know you have all seen the commercial. This is where everyday people could come into play if those who had more would release the grip to those who don't. If congress ever gets off their duff....and actually opens their eyes, they will see that their 50000 Egyptian cotton sheep count is not worth it for this month.. and the funds spent on their lavish foie gras (btw.. wth? who eats that?) on melba toast could be given to those who need it.. animals included.

So, Summer, why don't you take your mouthy ass down to Louisiana and do something about it? Yeah- I hear you saying it. My first answer is funds. I am one of those who does not have it to spare. I am not a rich person by any means.. but I do have a heart. I can do my best from where I am.. to help send aide. But those who are over-fortunate and have the almighty dollar at hand.. should be forking it over and loose the caviar for a night.

In the words of my comrades and I... oh and the ever popular Grey's....

Attributing to Reflux

This blog is the cooperative of wife/husband team Summer and Jesse. I'm Jesse, and last night the two of us shot our first video blog. Now all I have to do is edit and post. That will be tonight's job but since I'm here, I'll finish a thought I had while recording said vlog.

We filmed two vlogs, the first was short lived and deleted because it was just horrid. I was hoping to keep it for the DVD release but Summer had me get rid of it. In it we mention Hollywood rebooting and mention J. J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot. I then bit my tongue because bringing up Abrams' name brings us Lost, in my company, and that always leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth. I didn't want to go on a rant about the finale.

Now, don't get me wrong: I loved the finale of Lost. The show ended like it should have - with the end of a story - but so many people complained it wasn't enough and I say to them "get over yourselves."

Writers tell a story, their story, and if they tell it in a way you don't like, go find something else. If you didn't like Lost's ending, go watch Heroes... oh.. wait... yeah... canceled... sorry about that...

What I'm saying is that we all have stories to tell and we have the right to tell them. The sad/funny part is, if Disney (who owns the rights to Lost) decide to do spin off comics and books, yeap, this Lost Sheep will be in line buying it. Complete series on DVD? Yeap, I'm all in! Lost viewing parties? Yeah, I'll probably have them. Lost Fan Fiction? I don't think anything I could write could live up to what was Lost's writing team but don't count me out of that one just yet.
